GRYP Members, Community Leaders Unite to Support Habitat for Humanity at
Annual G!G!: A Night on the Italian Riviera

On Saturday, March 7, 2020, members of the Greater Reading Young Professionals (GRYP), community leaders, and guests, gathered at the Berkshire Country Club in Reading for the annual GRYP Gala also known as G!G!  This year’s theme was “A Night on the Italian Riviera.”

The Ballroom of the Berkshire was decorated from floor to ceiling with large topiaries, flowers, grapevines, candelabras, and dramatic lighting.  Ambiance was amplified by the one-man-band of Andréa Amoroso who delighted with songs in both English and Italian.  As in previous years, Jeremy Drey was on hand with his camera to memorialize the evening with precision and an artist flare.  The Berkshire’s butlered hors d’oeuvres and Italian-themed buffet meal and overall red-carpet staffing ensured a memorable evening.  Tammy Updegrove painted a scenic vista of an Italian cliffside town in just over two hours.  Her painting was then auctioned off for an impressive sum which went directly to GRYP’s efforts to raise $25,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Berks County.

To further enhance GRYP’s fundraising for Habitat, Customers Bank, who also happened to be G!G!’s top sponsor this year, offered to match, dollar-for-dollar, all funds raised and donated by GRYP in 2020 to Habitat for Humanity.  The success of G!G! certainly helps with those efforts.

“Those of us on the GRYP Board and G!G!2020 Planning Committee are very pleased with the positive responses we have heard regarding this year’s gala,” stated Adam Krick, Chair of the G!G!2020 Planning Committee.  “G!G! provides the young professionals of Greater Reading an opportunity to relax, dress up, and mingle in an exceptionally elaborate setting.  GRYP is known for its monthly mixers; however, there is only one G!G! each year.  We are very pleased with this year’s successful event.  Thank you to those people and businesses who supported us!

Some of the financial achievement of the evening stemmed from the impressive array of raffle baskets.  A large number of local businesses contributed gift cards, merchandise, and experiences which enticed even the most money-conscious guest to buy a wingspan of raffle tickets.

“The raffle baskets underscore the importance to attract, engage, and retain young professionals in the Great Reading area.  Of course, GRYP believes this; however, the generous support of the local businesses through those basket donations as well as the numerous corporate sponsors underscores the importance of GRYP’s existence and impact on Greater Reading.”
